2007 TED Prize winner Bill Clinton on TEDTalks

Accepting his 2007 TED Prize, Bill Clinton says he's trying to build a better world to hand to his daughter. Unequal, unstable and unsustainable, our world must correct its course, and private citizens ("like me") can be powerful forces for change. His Clinton Foundation, fresh from its success negotiating down pharmaceutical prices in the developing world, is now running a pilot health care system in Rwanda, based on the work of Dr. Paul Farmer in Haiti. In 18 months, it has shown potential as a model for the entire developing world. Clinton's TED wish: Help him build this system in Rwanda, to bring world-class health care to a people who have overcome deadly hatred to rebuild their nation. (Recorded March 2007 in Monterey, CA. Duration: 25:52)

It is interesting indeed to hear this man talk about saving the lives of children in the third world, when under his watch and his command the pharmaceutical factory, El Shifa, was destroyed by US missiles. This company manufactured about 90% of the pharmaceuticals used in Africa to treat malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases that affect children. It is estimated that this rash act cost the lives of 10's of thousands of children. Much work has to be done to gain the trust of those who have paid the price of our fears and our ideologies.

Thank you Mr. President - good to hear from you. I have finally come to the state of acceptance that the present Dark Ages forced upon us (has some necessary function). Without it the polarization and clashes and cohesions of ideas and minds would be at a snails pace - not the ultra-sonic speed having Bust and Buddies around. Progress is truly accelerating. Your fresh air keeps me alive. Thank you again and yes, soon we will establish a civilization worthy of the name!

We cant do anything with out sponsorship. So it is OK if BMW wants to put in their add at the end.

The three winners were very good. All of them talked about seriously addressing pollution and resource depletion. And then they were all followed by a melodramatic greenwash ad for a hydrogen 7-series BMW concept car. Typical - excess, powered by a fantasy.

The MP3 link is broken on all of the new TED Prize Winner posts. Can someone fix it?
