I smiled seeing this as I only put a piece on Theo Jansen on my own blog a day or two ago http://www.insightvillage.blogspot.com/. What a fabulous innovator pursuing beyond the edges of engineering and art. Love the work and feel excited and goose bumped by what he does. Eerie and pleasurable and heart catching.

I know they are liberal with dope in Holland, has this guy done a little too much? I am not referring to his designs. I think he has quite a unique design skill, but living creatures? One too many puffs me thinks.

His designs are fantastic though. He has managed to capture very natural looking movements in his art/design.

It is a very creative design using some kind of bamboo sticks or tubes. Impressive. To me is an eye opener.

Theo Jansen (born March 14, 1948, in The Hague, Netherlands) is a Dutch artist and kinetic sculptor. He builds large works which resemble skeletons of animals and are able to walk using the wind on the beaches of the Netherlands. His animated works are a fusion of art and engineering; in a car company television commercial Jansen says: "The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds."
A Jansen "beach beast", exhibited on the Linz city square during the Ars Electronica, 2005 Since 1990 Theo Jansen has been occupied with the making of a new nature. Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic material of this new nature. He makes skeletons which are able to walk on the wind. Eventually he wants to put these animals out in herds on the beaches, so they will live their own lives.
