TED2009 minutes from Ethan Zuckerman: Big pictures

Posted by: Tedstaff

Ethan Zuckerman has been liveblogging TED2009. Never missing a beat, he kept going late into yesterday evening to bring you full details on the last session, Reconnect. Here’s an excerpt about “Oceans:”

“It’s cost more than $75 million to film thus far, a sum out of reach even for feature films, never mind documentaries. It’s been financed by investors, sponsors and foundations, and will be released in France in October 2009 on Pathé and in the US on Earth Day, 2010 by Disney. The film has required eight years of Perrin’s life and now exists as 300 hours of footage, which need to become a two hour feature. The nine minutes we got to see here at TED were breathtaking, and I can’t wait to see the rest.”

For much more on the session, Ethan’s blog is the place to go.

I am astounded at the monetary amount in today’s economy but, after seeing a clip of “Winged Migration” and asking “How’d he do that?!” throughout the whole thing, it’s worth more than a thousand words! Imagine the affect of every man, woman and child seeing something so simple, so beautiful and so… universal! I suggest that clip and the book “Your Greatest Power” from the 50′s be issued with every birth certificate ;)

Ethan Zuckerman and TEDfellows should know of the “Earth . Air . Fire” exhibit at http://www.Long-Beach-Arts.org, LB’s oldest art organization . Friday Feb 6th(!) celebrates their 85th year in the Bixby Knolls section of LB visit http://www.FirstFridaysLongBeach.com before you head to The Village Tasting Room “Taste” downtown Friday Night! (Note: LBweekly thanks Mr. Dana Fox for linking LBArts with Saving LBCTelevision!)
