TED2009 minutes from Ethan Zuckerman: Grow

Posted by:

Ethan Zuckerman is liveblogging TED2009, and has a whole new roundup of posts from this afternoon’s first session, “Grow.” Here’s an excerpt from his post on Dickson Despommier, vertical farmer:

“What if we built cities around sustainable, vertical agriculture? We’d build sustainable eco-cities, recycling water from urine, making power from solid waste. Despommier argues that all this technology exists already, and just requires the ambition, bravery and creativity to put them into place.”

Therapist and coach Rosamund Zander also spoke on the theme of growing up, but as Ethan explains, her focus was on maturing and learning.

Ethan also wrote on David Merrill whose project, Siftables — little interactive and seemingly self-aware blocks — caused quite the stir. Yet another post featured Natasha Tsakos, artist and creator of the show “Up Wake”, as well as Twitter‘s own Evan Williams, leader of an ever growing organization.

We can all use a little growth.
