Today: One Day Without Shoes
An initiative of TOMS Shoes, One Day Without Shoes is a day to spread awareness about the impact a simple pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. They ask people to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience a life without shoes first-hand — and inspire others at the same time.

Apr 15 2010The video is blocked in Germany cause it´s using content owned by Sony Music Entertainment.
I often walk without shoes – sometimes for months, in nature, in cities, while I travel and so on. It gives me a feeling of being in touch with Earth.
It´s funny to observe people observing me without shoes. Shoes have become such a social status here that it immediatly becomes a hot topic if people see someone without shoes. “Oh you don´t wear shoes ?!” is the standard response with a puzzled face. On the negative response part one example “A kid with his grandma passed by and said: Look – he has no shoes ! Grandma replied: “That´s not allowed – if the police sees that, he´ll be busted” Same response from a homeless in Frankfurt main station.
So – I recommend wearing no shoes in your (or another) town, observe the reaction of the people and learn about the social status that we link to “Wearing Shoes”

That is a fantastic idea. I’m going out for a barefoot mile at the high school track after I get home tonight.
