When ideas have sex: Matt Ridley on TED.com
At TEDGlobal 2010, author Matt Ridley shows how, throughout history, the engine of human progress has been the meeting and mating of ideas to make new ideas. It’s not important how clever individuals are, he says; what really matters is how smart the collective brain is. (Recorded at TEDGlobal 2010, July 2010 in Oxford, UK. Duration: 16:27)

Jul 14 2010This was one of my favorite TED talks, too. The notion of our collective sharing of good ideas
for creating a computer mouse or something new in the near future is a positive message.
There is still a focus on the value of the individual IQ and research and less emphasis on a team approach to intellectual problem-solving. -

This is, hands down, my favorite TED talk of all time (thus far). Had I been sitting in the audience, I’d have given this man a standing ovation.
Furthermore, this seems to strike the very core of what TED is about. To me, it’s about sharing any and every good idea from any bright mind with all the world in an attempt to improve the world as a whole.
