The 1,000th TEDx event was today!

From the TEDx Posterous blog:

Today marks another TEDx milestone —  today’s TEDxBerlin is the 1000th TEDx event!

The first TEDx event — TEDxUSC — was in March 2009, and in less than two years, one has become 1000.

Here’s to 1000 more, and some highlights of the past 1000:

TEDx events happen everywhere, including in the developing world – TEDxKibera took place in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya.

The moving story of TEDxShekhavati, held in a small village in India, inspired many as TEDx organizer Masarat Daoud defied cultural norms in order to host her event.

TEDx events don’t just happen in auditoriums – organizers have also taken their events outdoors, including TEDxPalermo — whose speakers spoke from the Nautoscopio, a structure on a beach in Palermo — and TEDxAlmedalen, whose event was held in a backyard.

TEDxAmazonia‘s backdop was the Amazon rainforest.

TEDxChange – a partnership between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and TED — explored the future of the Millennium Development Goals not only from their event in New York, but by streaming their event to TEDx organizers hosting events, and their own speakers, around the TEDxChange stream.

Some 31 talks from these over 1000 TEDx events all around the world have made their way to TED.com:

The first posted TEDTalk was from the first TEDx event — TEDxUSC — and was from Jane Poynter, who spoke on what it was like living in Biosphere 2.

At TEDxOilSpill, Carl Safina spoke on the unseen victim of the recent oil spill in the Gulf.
