Gerald Weathers
One day while on a swim in the Gulf of Mexico, off the Florida Keys, I found myself if the midst of a dolphin pod. Very unexpectedly, a mother dolphin and her new born swam right up to me and I was face to face with the baby bottlenose dolphin. The mother somehow knowingly seemed to say to me . . . it’s OK. . . and then to the baby: “See, this is what a human looks like”. And smiling inquisitively, the baby looked me directly in the eyes, inches away from my face. Then they both swam away. I could relate that moment when the trust is allowed, for inter-species to communicate and not interfere, but to educate the younger. It is a moment that stays with you for life.
