Metformin, a generic diabetes pill, taken by millions of people, was show to significantly reduce breast cancer rates in the diabetic women who took it. This stands to reason when you look at a cancer stem cell's energy production method, a non mitochondrial method of fermentation, in fact the mitochondria and P53 are shut down in cancers, so apoptosis doesn't happen. Another group took this statistical finding and tried to induce human lung cancer in mice without immune systems, the mice on the pill version of Metformin had 40% less lung cancer than the baseline group, and the group receiving the shot version had 70% less lung cancer. Metformin was also found to act on mTOR favorably. Now add an old drug candidate that Mikelakis et al have show , shrinks human lung, breast and brain cancer in rats. It's called sodium dichloroacetate, (DCA) , and Mikelakis's group also cleared glioblastoma in 3 of 5 stage 4 human patients. He worked for 2 years to get a drug company involved. Since neither drug is patentable, no drug company would offer a cent to help out.

DCA works by reactivating the mitochondria in cancer cells, and shutting down glycolysis,,, via a K channel in the mitochondria, and it's a small molecule so it gets past the BBB.

These two drugs represent 2 powerful ways to stop cancer's energy source, which is the same only energy production method that can support the programmed growth rate of both a 1st trimester fetus, and a cancer cell (Credit to Otto Warburg).

Both of these therapies have side effects which could be monitored just as chemo blood levels are monitored. Medicore Cancer Clinic in Toronto does consults with U.S. doctors who wish to prescribe DCA, but I haven't heard how it gets along with Metformin.

I have checked the box to be notified of follow up comments via email.
