I used to live in Somalia when i was a child and my father was posted there by the government on an assignment. I remember Somalia before the civil war and it was the most wonderful place ever. We used to live in Hargeisa, the house was atop a hill. I remember our neighbours Amina, Kalthun, Abdi and many others. It was safe for women and children to walk out to town in the night. I remember attending weddings, men chewing on khaat(?) , anno (donkey milk), i can still count upto ten in Somali.
I wish the war had never happened. It pains me to think about it. I really wish one day I would return there to see the once peaceful land, see the market place, see pretty children with curly hair, tugging at our hair to see if its a wig, and once more buy "Kinky Dan" chewing gum.
