Use of Robotic surgery in India has already proven itself to be of great value, particularly in areas inaccessible to conventional laparoscopic procedures. Applications of robotic surgery are expanding rapidly into many different surgical disciplines. It remains to be seen, however, if robotic systems will replace conventional laparoscopic instruments in less technically demanding procedures. Currently there are three types of robotic surgery systems available in India: Supervisory-Controlled systems, Telesurgical systems and Shared-Control systems.
