		<description><![CDATA[I visited McMurdo Station in 1966-1967 aboard the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker &quot;Staten Island - WAGB276.&quot;  All we had for personal communication to family was the amateur HAM radio relays from our ship to the volunteer HAM operators.  They had to hold a telephone to the loud speaker on their equipment; the combination HAM radio transmition-to-telephone method worked poor to fair at best.

If I ever had the chance to return to Antarctica, I&#039;d do it in a heartbeat.  I know McMurdo has changed a lot from a few quonset huts (WWII surplus) to a place that now looks like a small college campus.]]></description>
