Dancers from the American Ballet Theatre are now on stage delighting the crowd with their delicate elegance and dramatic expression. Blaine Hoven and Stella Abrera are dancing Known by Heart, a duet choreographed by Twyla Tharp in 1998. The piece is performed to a strangely catchy taped score by Donald Knaack, in which metal is played as percussion. Dance aficionados might recognize the piece in the words of the New York Times, which described a recent performance as “not so much an anti-ballet as an exercise in audience-conscious coyness.” Non-dancers are just amazed at how graceful human beings can be.
