Last spring, Robyn Grobler shared a fascinating theory at TED@Johannesburg, one of the 14 stops on our worldwide talent search to find untold stories for TED2013. Her idea: that if she smiled, her patients felt less pain.

She brought a PowerPoint presentation, but Grobler also tried illustrating her talk using Prezi, the cloud-based presentation software. (TED’s parent foundation was an early investor in Prezi.) TED’s curator Chris Anderson was intrigued by the way the talk’s impact changed with the different tools, and he worked with Prezi to host a contest to “prezify” some classic TED Talks.

The winner of the contest has just been announced: Hedwyg van Groenendaal of the Netherlands. Bryan Stevenson: We need to talk about an injusticeShe used Prezi to create new imagery for Bryan Stevenson’s thought-flipping talk from TED2012 — “We need to talk about an injustice.” In addition to being featured on the Prezi website and here on the TED Blog, she’ll also get a personal introduction to Stevenson.

“Hedwyg’s Prezi repurposed inspiring parts of Bryan’s talk and added imaginative depth to spread the idea for a wider audience,” says Prezi CEO Peter Arvai. “We’re very impressed.”
