Lenses: A sneak peek of session 8 at TEDGlobal 2014

Lenses allow us to look at far away worlds and to examine our own more closely. In this session hidden social and scientific fabrics will be amplified by several orders of magnitude, bringing us a richer and more vibrant experience than the naked eye can see on its own.

The speakers who’ll appear in this session:

Astronomer Wendy Freedman leads the construction of the Giant Magellan Telescope, a massive earthbound observatory.

Jorge Soto is helping develop a simple, noninvasive test for early detection of cancer.

Filmmaker and global wanderer Vincent Moon explores and documents vanishing traditions with his evocative ethnomusical films.

A jazz icon since the late 1960s, Naná Vasconcelos has contributed Latin percussion to some of the world’s most cerebral, soulful music.

In author Elizabeth Pisani‘s latest book, she explores the “improbable nation” of Indonesia.

Jimmy Nelson’s beautiful photographs of vanishing tribes illuminate ways that the unique adaptations of indigenous cultures could enrich our own societies.
