Some of the public places where you can watch TED programming this week during TEDGlobal 2013.

When TEDGlobal 2013 kicks off tomorrow, June 10, you’ll be able to “Think Again” with like-minded idea enthusiasts — al fresco and possibly with a picnic. As the conference begins, we’ll be airing TED Talks on big screens in eight cities around the world. And by big screens, we mean huge screens. Think: screens of the size in Times Square.

Outdoor screenings are taking place in New York, London, Portsmouth, Bristol, Leeds, Swansea, Melbourne and Perth. These won’t be  livestreams of the event (if you’re interested in that, find out more about a TED Live membership); instead TED’s distribution team has curated thought-provoking programs of talks around several conference themes:

  • Monday, 6/10: “Work Smarter”
  • Tuesday, 6/11: “Tech Demos”
  • Wednesday, 6/12: “I Heart Food”
  • Thursday, 6/13: “Grab Bag!”
  • Friday, 6/14: “Fascinating Life Hacks”

As part of the program, we’ll also be co-premiering two talks from TEDGlobal 2013 within hours of the talks being released on TED.com.

Here some of the places where you’ll be able to watch TED on the big screen outdoors:

FEDERATION SQUARE: MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA. In the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street, this space is the size of an entire city block. Fed Square has become one of the most visited attractions in Melbourne with close to 10 million visits in 2012.

BBC BIG SCREEN: LONDON, ENGLAND.  Located across the street Woolwich Arsenal Train Station in General Gordon Square, this mega screen has hosted viewings of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, as well as soccer matches.

BIG SCREEN PLAZA: NEW YORK, NEW YORK. In Midtown Manhattan, between 29th and 30th Streets at 6th Avenue, the Big Screen Plaza is a 10,000-square foot venue that hosts events and screenings, ranging from cinema to sports, arts to fashion.

NORTHBRIDGE PIAZZA: PERTH, AUSTRALIA. Perth’s first permanent LED screen showcases films, sports, music and more. The space is designed to encourage community interaction.

BBC BIG SCREEN: PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND. A two-minute walk from Portsmouth and Southsea station, this screen in Guildhall Square attracted big audiences for the 2012 London Olympics.
