ALERT: Talk contains graphic sexual language
At TED2009, audience member Cindy Gallop gave a 4-minute presentation that became one of the event’s most talked about. Speaking from her personal experience, she argued that hardcore pornography had distorted the way a generation of young men think about sex, and talked about how she was fighting back with the launch of a website to correct the myths being propagated. Later, she expanded her brief presentation into a provocative and thought-provoking TED Book.
Her talk’s graphic content means we can’t include it in the main run of full TEDTalks, which go by default to subscribers, including children. But we do think it’s worth posting here. Cindy is no prude, and not everyone will enjoy the graphic language on her website, MakeLoveNotPorn.com. But she has courageously (and wittily) raised an important issue, which we think deserves wider attention. Constructive comments welcome!

Creation is a fabulous word, and so – procreation. Gifts of God include procreation as a blessing to sustain humanity as a race. Attached with this process is the nature and beauty of sex, which most tend to ignore and look at the physical side alone. Because human beings can mate at any time, unlike other species. Love defines intensity and architecture of a sexual act. I tend to believe that from mechanical to a tender human activity it is sublime. serene and very tempting. Attraction result in action. Not otherwise. I happened to read about you in Times of India news paper of date and idealized the concept as a natural outcome for people to enjoy, bond and build healthier relationships. How to watch some of those scenes?

As a teenager with sexual experience with a dozen of men and a female, and as a porn lover, I disagree. There quite a variety of porn out there. Some of which show women enjoying extremely intense and maybe even painful situation and some are actually extremely soft, involving nothing but touching, kissing and oral. In both cases the women seem to be enjoying the situation but how could that ever mean that any girl would enjoy anything. In fact from watching so much porn I came to the conclusion that different men and women enjoy extremely different things. This is most prevalent in BDSM. If anyone ever checks a BDSM questionaire they will see how many different sexual activities and fetishes there are out there. It will be a terrible mistake to assume any girl would enjoy being naked, tied up and beaten up as foreplay. It will also be a terrible mistake to assume only a small percentage of women enjoy that. Honestly I think the best way to know what a person enjoys is to watch carefully for their reaction or just talk to them about what they like and what they don’t. I can’t see how anyone could go wrong with that. If anyone assumes all women enjoy what they’ve watched in porn, it’s a problem with their ignorance not with porn.

If you are disagreeing with Cindy Gallop she never said she had a problem with porn. She says she’s pro-making love, pro-porn and (most imortantly) pro-knowing the difference.
