Experts and IBM insiders break down Watson’s Jeopardy! win
Yesterday, TED.com hosted a live webstream of IBM experts and insiders discussing supercomputer Watson’s victory against Jeopardy!‘s top human contestants. For anyone who missed it, we’re providing an archived video of this fascinating conversation between host Stephen Baker, author of “Final Jeopardy, Man vs Machine” and Watson’s principal investigator Dr. David Ferrucci, IBM Fellow Kerrie Holley and Columbia professor Herbert Chase.

Mayumi Levesque
As a graduate student in social work: I wonder if in the field of social work (as well as in business and medicine), Watson might have the potential to influence the ways we participate in evidence-based practice; or if it would interfere with the human component of engagement and assessment; and if it would ignore the ecological, cultural, and semantic contexts in which humans communicate. I just don’t want to see professionals substituting the technology for critical thought in the name of efficiency– especially when there may be more than one (or even, a handful of) correct response(s).
That said, I would love to have Watson as an app on my iphone! ;-)
